Your Focus and the Pink Elephant

An analogy for change in your life. . . this was shared with me recently, and I wanted to share it with others. Think of a pink elephant. Really imagine one in your head. It can be the one above or from your own imagination. Are you thinking of it?

Okay, now don't think about the pink elephant. Don't picture it.

What are you thinking of or picturing?

If it's still a pink elephant, here's something that may help you. If it's no longer a pink elephant, what are you thinking of now? This illustration can still be something useful in life for you too. When I did this I pictured the little mouse from Dumbo, random (although there were pink elephants in that movie :) As in my example, in order NOT to picture a pink elephant I had to picture something else instead. I had to replace the picture with one of my own making.

If there are things in your life that you want to change, you have the power to do it. But it won't be through reminding yourself NOT to do something. If you want to change your diet, thinking about NOT eating junk food, puts your focus where? On the junk food. So in order to accomplish your goals, remember to evaluate where your focus is. If your focus is on what you are missing in your life, you may remain stagnant, but if you put your focus on where you want to go, you can begin to look and to move forward.

Don't live life looking in your rearview mirror. Look ahead, and move ahead. I'm trying to learn this, and have to keep reminding myself to envision my future and replace my pink elephants with the choices of my own making!

A Proud Season Pass Holder

Yes, it's official. I am a season passholder for Cherry Hill. And I'm thrilled! My friend, Katie and I decided to buy passes so we could go swimming anytime we wanted! I worked there 2 years my sophomore and junior years at high school and I love the place. I love anything to do with water! We also convinced our friend Lisa Carrier to purchase one as well. If you want a pass of your own go to www.cherry-hill.com :) Let the fun times begin!

Typing is fun! Found this visiting a friends blog. It made me remember back in elemtary school, when we got to have computer class. When all our assignments were finished we got to play a typing game where letters fell from the top of the screen and you had to type them before they hit the bottom. They kept coming faster and faster. . . I loved it! I'm a nerd.

Can you say impressive?

Tonight I got to spend a wonderful night with my brother and his family! We met them in Salt Lake for a picnic and a tour of the Conference Center. They wanted to show their kids where the prophet was going to speak from, and give them a chance to see the amazing building. I really look up to Matt and Becca! They are such great examples . . . and their kids are no different!

I love the Conference Center. It is such an amazing facility! I love to look at all the artwork and detail, and just take in the grandeur of it all! As we made our way onto the roof, the tour took us to a picture of various indivuals sand blasted onto granite, with the words "The gospel shall go forth to every nation, kindred, tongue and people".

Cali, who is 5, got very excited and kept jumping up and down, and pointing to the picture of a young boy. She kept trying to get everyone's attention to look at the photo. It took her a few minutes. She kept saying something as she pointed to the picture. Her parents didn't notice this, so I stooped down and asked her what she was saying. She pointed again to the picture and excitedly said, "That's David O. Mckay!" I looked at the photo more closely, and vaguely remembered a similar photo from pictures I had seen of the prophets when they were young. Had it been left at that we would have thought nothing further of it, perhaps it was, perhaps it wasn't, we weren't sure.

Our tour guide, unaware of the interchange, started guiding us further along the tour, when he said he almost forgot one thing, turned around, and I thought, "he's going to say that's David O Mckay! She really was right!" Sure enough. He walked back to the photo, pointed at the picture of the young boy, and said, "This is a picture of David O Mckay when he was young" . . .

Children never cease to amaze me! How I absolutely adore and love each one!
