Spring Picnic

"Spring Flowers"
Norman Rockwell
The sun has been shining, flowers are appearing and the birds have been singing that spring is on its way. And boy, am I glad! The gloom is beginning to part . . . and I had my first picnic of the year! Nothing fancy, but it made my day. Not quite spring enough to have our picnic on the grass; the crunchy brown stuff turned out to be a spider haven - and my worst nightmare! Crunch, 5 spiders, crunch, 5 more, crunch, crunch, crunch - as I ran to escape! I couldn't get off their temporary home fast enough. Once to safety, I turned around to see tons of the tiny terrors scurrying around. One word - gross! We set up camp with a comfortable blanket on the inviting cement walkway. Sunny day, on a picnic, with a good friend - need I say more? Loved it! I stayed outside that day as long as I possibly could! They keep trying to forecast gloom before spring is "really here". I guess they just don't want us to get our hopes up. Sorry, mine already are, and I'm going to enjoy it while I have it!
